My initial option for the ZTV database was to use Access XP. I know it’s not a performance monster, but it should have been good enough and very easy to deploy (just copy the .mdb file and you’re done).
Eventually, I hit some snags dealing with memo fields, Access and ADO.NET. It seems like there’s a known issue that’s not yet resolved. So, instead of waiting for a fix, I decided to install SQL Server 2000 and migrate the current database schema from Access.
Boy oh boy, is it fast! 🙂
The deployment is a bit different, using DTS (Data Transformation Services) to move my data to the PVR machine, but it seems to be working just fine. And I can even start to think about using stored procedures, now 🙂
