The Hardware

The key piece that everything revolves around is an ATi All-InWonder Radeon 7500 video card. It’s a decent all-around card that provides lots of inputs and outputs and comes with a RF (Radio Frequancy) remote in the box. The remote has a little receiver that gets installed in a free USB port on your computer.

This card is installed into my desktop PC, built with an ASUS A7N266-C motherboard, an AMD Athlon XP1800+ processor and other bits and pieces.

The development machine is my trusty Compaq 1720CA laptop and then there is another PC in the living room, connected to the TV with an old ATi All-In-Wonder pro card and a wireless USB adapter to my home network.

In the end, I’d love to build a small, quiet PC, housed into a VCR case, do be sublty put near the cable box and the TV. I have a non working VCR to cannibalize for that, but that’s a longer term project.
